Canton, Mass. Home Deemed Total Loss in 3-Alarm Fire

The family was able to escape the blaze unharmed

Flames destroyed a home overnight in Canton, Massachusetts, forcing a family to flee the building.

Firefighters received a call at about 11:30 p.m. of a fire at a home on Boathouse Road. Upon arrival, crews saw flames ripping through the structure, which was later deemed a total loss.

The family was able to flee from the burning building unharmed, according to authorities. As many as 45 firefighters responded to the three-alarm fire.

"Very difficult fire to fight," Canton Fire Department Chief Charles Doody said. "The buck of the fire was in the attic space so it was difficult to get water onto the fire which is why we had to use aerial devices to basically try to get water in the second-story windows."

A family of five to six adults were able to escape harm's way. No injuries were reported in connection to the blaze.

The investigation is ongoing.
