A stray cat found bruised and lying in a pool of blood, is recovering at the Animal Rescue League of Boston thanks to a good Samaritan.
A facilities worker found the 2-year-old Snowshoe cat earlier this week by an outdoor staircase in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood and called ARL Field Services, according to the ARL.
Witnesses told the ARL that the cat had been hit by a car.
The crew from the ARL was eventually able to coax the cat, nicknamed "Space Ghost," into a carrier with food despite the pain the animal was in.
The cat was taken to ARL's Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center for emergency medical treatment where officials said X-rays showed foreign matter in his stomach and colon, bruised lungs and air in his chest outside the lungs.
"He had some significant blunt trauma to his chest," ARL veterinarian Emily Forline said. "As soon as we pulled off the air from his chest... he immediately perked right up."
Space Ghost was also thin and had severe muscle deterioration, scabbing, several broken toenails and a fractured tooth.

Since being admitted to the ARL, officials said the cat had made "remarkable strides."
"He's been doing great here, he's been gaining weight slowly," Forline said.
Space Ghost will be monitored for another couple of weeks and be neutered before being made available for adoption.
"ARL is thankful to the Good Samaritan for their quick actions to save the life of this animal," the organization said in a statement. "ARL is the only animal welfare agency in Massachusetts able to respond to this type of emergency situation in the field, and the organization looks forward to getting Space Ghost healthy and into a loving home."
