83-Year-Old Man Airlifted After Crashing Into Office Building

An 83-year-old man was airlifted to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries after crashing into a building Monday in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

Police said the driver, a Lowell resident, crashed his Toyota Tacoma pickup truck into an office building on Middlesex Street shortly before 5:30 p.m. More than three quarters of the truck was lodged into the building, police said.

Two people were working in an insurance office on the first floor, but neither of them were injured.

The driver was conscious and alert when a medical helicopter flew him to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. His injuries are considered life-threatening.

Chelmsford's building inspector is assessing the damage.

Police believe the man was driving on Wright Street when he crossed Middlesex Street and hit the building.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
