Lockdown at Chelsea School Lifted After Reports of Shots Fired

A school in Chelsea, Massachusetts, was temporarily put in lockdown Wednesday, after a report of shots fired in the area.

The lockdown was put in place at the Silber Early Learning Center at 99 Hawthorn St., the former Shurtleff School. It was lifted just before 2:30 p.m.

Police had responded to a shotspotter activation in the area of 101 Congress Ave. at about 1:30 p.m.

Authorities said one person is in custody and what appears to be a firearm was recovered.

Police had said they were still looking for additional suspects in the area. It's unclear if any other arrests have been made.

As a precaution, the nearby school was placed in lockdown. Authorities said school release time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
