Cold and Wintry Start to the Work Week, Snow Monday Into Tuesday

The morning's showers will mostly depart by mid-afternoon, lingering mostly along the southern coast and exiting the Cape and Islands last.

Partial sunshine will develop during Sunday afternoon, but the day overall will feature more clouds than anything else thanks to the cold front moving through the area.

The front finally clears the area through the overnight hours into early Monday, with Monday morning starting off in the lower 20s in Northern New England, to near the freezing mark for Southern New England.

High temperatures Monday will only stretch into the lower 30s up north, and low- to mid-30s south under mostly cloudy skies.

The cold front that clears the area in the predawn hours of Monday will lay the groundwork for the developing coastal system that will skim the coastline late Monday into early Tuesday.

This storm just brushes the Cape, the Islands and coastal southeast Massachusetts with some snow bands on the backside of the system through the early Tuesday morning commute. The snow showers will likely subside by the afternoon, with high temperatures Tuesday only stretching into the mid to upper 20s. In terms of accumulation, between a dusting to 2 inches is expected for those locations.

Wednesday continues the cold trend with highs into the mid to upper 20s, but at least the sunshine returns across New England.

Thursday ushers in cloud cover ahead of the next clipper developing over the northern Great Lakes Region. Snow showers could build into western New England as early as Thursday night into early Friday morning, with the possibility of a wintry mix for Friday.

We’re going to keep an eye on both Groundhog Day Friday and the Monday after the Super Bowl as those tend to be big travel days and both days have the chance of seeing rain/snow mix.

This weekend, here at home, temperatures will range from upper 20s to lower 30s both days under partly cloudy skies. If you’re traveling to Minneapolis for the Super Bowl, make sure to pack the layers, considering highs both weekend days there will only stretch into the mid-teens, so thankfully, the game is being played indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
