Gloucester Police and Fire departments rescued a man who fell onto rocks at a quarry on Saturday morning.
First responders arrived at the quarry located by Plum Cove School on Hickory Street shortly after 10:30 a.m.
The 35-year-old male was using a rope swing when it broke, causing him to fall. The man sustained significant injuries.
Emergency crews worked together to navigate the quarry rocks downhill as they carried the man to a nearby field, where he was airlifted to a Boston hospital. First responders used an off-road utility vehicle to extricate the man from the area.
"Our police officers and firefighters worked tirelessly to transport this individual to a safe location," said Fire Chief Eric Smith. "Walking down those rocks, especially while transporting an injured person, was challenging and required perseverance and teamwork from each of them."
"The collaboration between the police and fire departments during this incident was truly outstanding," Police Chief Edward Conley said. "We're fortunate in Gloucester that our public safety departments work so fluidly together. Well done to each of the officers and firefighters that responded to this scene today."
