MAP: How Much Snow Did Massachusetts Get From the Blizzard?

The National Weather Service reported that Stoughton saw 30.9 inches of snow

NBC Universal, Inc.

A blizzard dumped around two feet of snow in parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut on Saturday.

Much of the East Coast was battered by the fierce winter storm all day, flinging heavy snow that made travel treacherous or impossible.

The storm thrashed parts of 10 states, with blizzard warnings that stretched from Virginia to Maine, but Boston was in the crosshairs.

Forecasters watched closely for new snowfall records on Saturday, especially in Boston. The city's modern snowfall record is 27.6 inches, set in 2003.

NBC10 Boston meteorologist Pete Bouchard said late Saturday night that Boston had tied its record for the most snow in one day, with 23.6 inches falling Saturday (Note: not storm total).

But it was Stoughton that got the jackpot, where the National Weather Service reported 30.9" of snow.

As of 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service reported some of the highest totals by state so far, which included more than 30" in Sharon, Mass., almost 25" in Warren, Rhode Island; more than 21" in Groton, Connecticut; 18" in Brunswick, Maine, and more than 13" in Rye, New Hampshire.

The NWS said more than 30 inches fell in Sharon, Massachusetts.

Some other parts of New England were far from setting all-time records but still saw significant snowfall.
