DCF Investigates Incident at Day Camp in Hyde Park

The Massachusetts Department of Children and Families says it is investigating an incident at the Thomas M. Menino YMCA Day Camp in Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood.

The DCF confirmed Wednesday that it had received a complaint of possible abuse and neglect at the River Street facility. The YMCA issued a statement about an incident that took place last Tuesday.

"On July 31st, a camp counselor at the Thomas M. Menino YMCA Day Camp in Hyde Park was compelled to control the behavior of a camper who was striking her," the statement read. "The counselor took hold of the child's arm to prevent him from striking her, and possibly causing injury to himself and others."

The YMCA says it notified the boy's parents immediately, filing a report with state authorities. It adds that it followed its own code of conduct while dealing with the situation.
