Death of Amherst College Football Player in Mexico Not a Suicide

The Amherst College football player who died in Mexico did not kill himself, according to the school.

MassLive.com reports that an update from Amherst President Carolyn A. Martin was posted on the school's site, providing an update on the death of Andrew Dorogi.

Dorogi, who was a senior, was found dead on March 16 in Mexico City while on spring break.

Martin says that she knows from his family that "he did not die of suicide." Mexican authorities are taking the lead on the investigation.

Friday, Amherst college released a statement regarding Dorogi's death.

"It is important that the matter is fully investigated and that justice is pursued," it read. "Our primary focus continues to be on supporting a campus that is grieving."

Dorogi was from Cleveland, Ohio and played tight end for the school's Division III football team.
