Downed Lines Causing Delays on MBTA's Providence Commuter Rail Line

Trains are now moving, but significant delays remain as trains can only operate on a single track in both directions near Canton Junction

Delays are being reported along the Providence MBTA Commuter Rail line due to downed wires on Tuesday afternoon.

Initial reports around 12:30 p.m. said that a downed catenary wire -- the overhead system that provides power to trains -- near Canton Junction was causing delays of up to two hours.

The MBTA Commuter Rail said on Twitter around 1:20 p.m. that all Providence/Stoughton lines are now on the move, but significant delays remain as trains can only operate on a single track in both directions near Canton Junction. The wire issue is ongoing.

No further information was immediately available.
