Duck Bridge in Lawrence Closed After Truck Strikes Several Beams

An inspector from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation will need to examine the safety of the bridge

The Duck Bridge in Lawrence, Massachusetts, has been closed to traffic after police say a truck struck several beams Tuesday morning.

Police received a call at about 11 a.m. after several overhead beams on the bridge that connects Union and South Union streets were seen hanging, according to The Eagle Tribune.

When officers arrived, seven of the 10 overhead structural beams had been nearly ripped down, according to the paper.

The bridge, which goes over the Merrimack River, has been closed until an inspector from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation can examine its safety.

Police told the paper the bridge remains open to pedestrians.
