East Boston Stabbing Victim Dies Days After Attack

The victim has been identified by family as Alfred Rodriguez Nunez, of Revere

A man who was stabbed early Sunday in East Boston has died from his injuries, according to police.

Officers responded to a call for a person stabbed in the area of Chelsea Street, outside Medallo Bar, just before 2 a.m. Sunday, where they found the victim suffering from a stab wound. Authorities said there had been some kind of altercation.

The man, who was identified by family as Alfred Rodriguez Nunez, was taken to an area hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries. Police said he died on Wednesday.

Family members said Rodriguez Nunez lived in Revere and owned a barbershop with his brother on Shirley Avenue. He was the father of two children.

"He was the responsible one, the one that told us exactly what we needed to do and he was the one that led us. He was our guide," said stepsister Mari Fermin.

Wednesday evening, family and friends put candles at the spot where Nunez collapsed.

"It's a tragedy," said Fermin. "It's something that we don't understand. Life is short, and we didn't see this coming."

"He's always been a positive influence in our community," said family friend Jazmin Lora. "He's never been anyone who's looked for trouble."

The stabbing remains under investigation.
