The East Boston woman accused of assaulting two emergency responders and calling in bomb threats to airports in Martha’s Vineyard and Washington, D.C., has been ordered to spend an additional 20 days undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
Both the defense and prosecution had concerns about the mental health of 31-year-old Julie Tejeda, who was arrested on three charges that include assault and battery after she allegedly stabbed an EMT inside an ambulance and sprayed a mace-like chemical in the face of another.
The wounded EMTs originally responded to a report of a possibly "emotionally disturbed" person on July 10 in East Boston.
While on the way to Massachusetts General Hospital, Tejeda allegedly became combative and stabbed one of the first responders four times as they were traveling near Government Center. The second EMT was then sprayed with a mace-like chemical.
Boston Emergency Medical Services said the stabbing victim was released from MGH and is continuing her recovery at home. The second assault victim is also expected to recover.
In addition to the alleged assaults, Tejeda is under investigation for possibly making false bomb threats over the phone to airports in Washington, D.C., and Martha’s Vineyard.
Tejeda is expected to return to court in 20 days, after her second mental health evaluation.
