Man Changing Tire Struck, Killed by Vehicle in Easton

A man changing a tire was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle in Easton, Massachusetts.

The incident happened on Washington Street (Route 138) just before 1 p.m.

Fire officials said the victim, identified late Wednesday night as 64-year-old Mark Bobbitt of Easton, was changing a rear driver's side tire when he was struck by a red pickup truck with a plow attached to it.

"I heard the crash," said Deborah Bocchino. "I walked back to the window and saw the body at the end of the driveway."

The crash happened outside the home of Bocchino and her husband, Bobby. Their security cameras captured the incident and they turned the video over to police.

"He was kneeling down and it shows the truck coming along and just sideswipes him," Bobby Bocchino said.

The couple said Bobbitt was hit by the plow's blade, and that he was dragged.

Richard Andrede said he heard the commotion and immediately rushed outside.

"We were working out in the back and one of my guys said there was an accident out front," Andrede said. "Seemed to be a gentleman changing his tire on the side of the road, a plow truck came along and hit him."

Bobbitt was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, where he later died.

Police said the driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.

"We still need to figure out where this gentleman was, whether he was in the roadway... whether he was off the roadway. There are still too many unanswered questions," said Easton Police Chief Gary Sullivan.
