Ex-Williams College Student Sentenced to 3 Years for Rape

Yoonsang Bae, of Boston, apologized to the victim in court, saying he was "truly sorry for what happened"

A former student at an elite Massachusetts college convicted of raping a woman on campus has been sentenced to three years in prison.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that 27-year-old Yoonsang Bae, of Boston, was sentenced Monday after he was convicted Friday of raping a then-19-year-old woman at a Williams College dorm room in July 2014.

Bae was working on a summer research project when the victim visited friends on campus for the weekend. Bae reportedly raped her after the two had been drinking.

Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Ilberg read a statement submitted by the victim. The woman described how the guilt and shame following the assault led her to consider suicide.

Bae addressed the court and apologized to the victim, saying he was "truly sorry for what happened."
