Pipe Bombs, Hand Grenades Found at Abandoned Home in NH, Prompting Evacuations

Nearby schools were placed on a lock-in for several hours

Explosive devices were found at an abandoned home in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, police said Thursday as they worked to clear other homes in the area and neutralize any threat to the community.

The new owners of a previously abandoned house found pipe bombs and hand grenades in the basement of the home on Thursday, Saragosa police said hours after authorities swarmed to the home in the Indian Acres neighborhood of Hinsdale.

Nearby schools were placed on a lock-in, in which students were kept from leaving while classes were in session, for several hours Thursday afternoon. The lock-in was over as of about 3:45 p.m.

Access to Indian Acres was restricted while the situation unfolded, Hinsdale police said earlier.

"This will be a long term event and we will update the community as we have more information," they had announced.

State police remained at the scene as of 3:45 p.m.
