The shooting at a school in Florida Wednesday has put a nation in shock and has brought up painful memories for people who were left behind in past mass shootings.
Jeff Capobianco is one of those people. His wife Jennifer was shot and killed when a disgruntled employee came into a Wakefield office building and started shooting. Six others were killed in the 2000 attack. Capobianco and their then 2-month-old daughter Eva were left to carry on with their lives.
Following this most recent shooting, Capobianco is hoping lawmakers will seriously consider new gun legislation.
"I've never talked about this publicly. I never thought I'd talk about this publicly. But I've hit my tipping point," Capobianco said.
Stephen Doherty was the police chief in Wakefield at the time and was one of the first people who responded to the call. He says shootings like this most recent one in Florida could have been prevented.
"How do we take these people off the street before they pick up a weapon," said Doherty.
Capobianco says he has written to U.S. Senators to urge them to push for stricter gun laws, but he feels like his concerns have fallen on deaf ears.
