Another Massachusetts family is left asking questions after a loved one was killed in a Cape Cod crash surrounded by controversy.

Twenty-four-year-old Jocelyn Goyette was in the passenger seat of a car that was being chased by police before crashing on Route 28 in Cotuit Saturday, killing the driver, as well as a marine veteran driving another car, who had just become a father.

Goyette, a mother and nurse’s assistant from New Bedford, initially survived the crash. She suffered a number of injuries including collapsed lungs and a fractured skull. She died Sunday night.

Her family said they do not know how she came to be in the car with 22-year-old Mickey Rivera. They said Goyette did send a text message to her sister before the crash to say she was aggravated and wanted to go home.

"I'll never, ever forget her, I just want to know why," Goyette’s grandmother Toni Britto said. "You took my granddaughter and an innocent man."

Her family said their hearts are with the family of Kevin Quinn and they too are angry after hearing about Rivera’s criminal record. He was driving on a suspended license and was out of jail after his bail was recently lowered. He was being pursued by Mashpee Police for erratic driving up until the crash happened.

"I know she was screaming for him to stop," Goyette’s aunt Tammy Silveira said. "She loves her son and she would never put herself in harm’s way."

Goyette leaves behind a fiancée and 3-year-old son. Her family plans to donate her organs and is raising money for her funeral. The GoFundMe page for Quinn had surpassed 250,000 by Tuesday night.

The Barnstable Police Department put out a release on Wednesday saying it "regretfully reports the passing of 24-year-old Jocelyn Goyette" and extending the department's condolences to her family.
