Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Yarmouth

Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle in Yarmouth, Massachusetts.

The crash happened around 4:12 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Buck Island and Townbrook roads in West Yarmouth.

Police said the motorcyclist, later identified as 68-year-old Greg E. Straughn, of Brewster, was found dead at the crash scene.

"The 100 men and women of the Yarmouth Police Department as well as the Citizens of Yarmouth extend our deepest sympathies to the Straughn family and their friends," Deputy Chief of Police Steven Xiarhos said in a statement.

The driver of the car, identified as 68-year-old Daniel M. Buckley, of Yarmouth, was cooperative and was interviewed at Yarmouth Police Department headquarters.

A preliminary investigation shows Straughn was operating a gray 2004 Yamaha XVS motorcycle eastbound on Buck Island Road, while Buckley was driving a 2010 Dodge Avenger, traveling northbound on Townbrook Road.

Police say it appears Buckley stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded straight across when the fatal collision occurred.

Authorities diverted heavy summertime traffic from the area following the crash.

Yarmouth police officers are continuing to investigate with assistance from the detective division, the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Team, Massachusetts State Police, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
