A man and a teenager were rescued from a boat that capsized 500 yards from shore on Saturday, according to authorities on Cape Cod.
According to the Mashpee Fire Department, they received a call about a capsized boat in Waquoit Bay just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
When they arrived on scene, they saw two people sitting on top of the boat about 500 yards from shore.
"We took a look out there and saw the two people in the wa— well, at this point they were on top of the boat using the boat as a floating device," Mashpee Fire Department Captain Kevin Long said.
He says they were very lucky because when they get a call like this one at this time of year, they know every minute counts as they work to get out on the water.
"Hypothermia. It's a cold time of year," Long said.
The people, identified only as a 56-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, were rescued and brought onshore to the Little River Boat Yard.

They didn't suffer any major injuries besides a lowered body temperature. They refused further medical attention, officials said.
The pair are hiring a private towing company to get their boat out of the bay, according to officials.
It is believed that strong winds and two-foot waves were the reason for the boat capsizing, fire officials said.
Long says they don't get these calls often, only a couple a year, but suggests anyone going out on the water any time of the year wears a life jacket and brings any suit with the ability to keep you warm.
