Crews Battle 4-Alarm Fire Inside Corner Market Store in Dorchester

A 4-alarm fire in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood gutted a corner market store on Tuesday.

Boston fire officials said the fire that had been raging underneath the roof of the Codman Square business on Washington Street started at 9 a.m. and was finally extinguished by 3 p.m.

Firefighters were hampered by a large billboard on top of the roof and the danger of a roof collapse.

Crews used a type of foam to combat the flames, which a Boston Fire spokesperson said will slither through a structure differently than water, helping to smother fire.

Sky Ranger footage from the scene showed heavy smoke pouring from the building.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

Jamie Garcia said he was inside just minutes before the flames broke out.

"It was just chill," he said. "Everybody was just chilling, having a good time. When I went to McDonald's came back, this happened."
