Former Patriot Named Titans Head Coach

The Tennessee Titans are expected to announce former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel as their new head coach according to several reports.

Vrabel has spent the past four seasons working as a coach and defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. ESPN reports that Vrabel will be signed to a 5-year contract as he replaces Mike Mularkey who was fired on Monday.

Vrabel, of course, was one of the mainstays of the earlier part of the Patriots dynasty as part of the first 3 Super Bowl championship teams. He played with the Patriots from 2001-2008. While mainly known as a linebacker, Vrabel was sometimes used on offense as a tight end. All of the 10 passes he caught in his career were for touchdowns, including two in the Super Bowl. He was also the first player in NFL history to have caught 2 touchdowns and record one sack in a game.

Vrabel will be replaced as defensive coordinator by former Patriots coach Romeo Crenell who is already an assistant head coach with the Texans. Vrabel is expected to be named as the Titans coach officially at a press conference on Monday.
