Gaping Hole Caused by Water Main Break in Tewksbury, Massachusetts

A water main break created a gaping hole in the ground early Wednesday in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, prompting police to warn of impacts to water service and traffic. 

Officers responded to the water main break sometime before 5:45 a.m. in the area of Newton Avenue and Main Street, according to police. The Tewksbury Department of Public Works also responded.

Residents on Newton Avenue may have their water service impacted throughtout the morning, police said. Newton Avenue was closed at Main Street until further notice.

Authorities said there was no impact to Route 38 and the break happened at the site of a water main project. Construction crews are expected to arrive at the scene.

No injuries were immediately reported in the break.
