Government Shutdown Affects Boston Tourists Favorites

The JFK Library, Bunker Hill Monument Visitor Center and Charlestown Navy Yard Visitor Center are all closed amid the government shutdown

As President Donald Trump and Congress fail to come to an agreement for a budget, the government shutdown continues and affects local tourist spots.

Boston tourists who visit the Hub for the holidays will find that the John F. Kennedy Library, Bunker Hill Monument Visitor Center and Charlestown Navy Yard Visitor Center will be closed. The landmarks’ websites warn potential visitors that they are closed due to the shutdown.

"Websites and social media are not being updated or monitored, and activities are canceled, with some exceptions," the JFK Library said on its website.

The other two locations are run by the National Park Service, which warned visitors that the sites are closed.

"For most parks, there will be no National Parks Service-provided visitor services, such as restrooms, trash collections, facilities, or road maintenance," both websites said.

As the shutdown continues, the Freedom Trail, Old South, Old State, the Revere House, Old North and the USS Constitution & Museum will remain open. Click here for a full list.

Trump and Congress are at a stalemate over the president's demand to fund a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border. Approximately 800,000 federal workers are affected by the government shutdown.

It is unclear when the shutdown will end.
