Heavy Downpours, Thunder Anticipated for Morning Commute

We start the day tracking downpours with embedded thunder.

New England is on the northern edge of a weather system that impacted a great deal of the nation with heavy rain and thunderstorms in the last 24 hours. In the northern part of our region, we have cooler and drier air slowly pushing south.

However, there’s a front in southern New England, focusing some heavy downpours and thunder through the morning commute.

Not everybody is getting the rain, but in some cases, it’s raining hard enough to cause ponding of water on roads. The heaviest rain should continue to ease southward with increasing sunshine from north to south Thursday afternoon.

Wind gradually comes around, from the north with temperatures topping out in the 60s in northern New England, to 70s central and south. Humidity goes down in southern New England late in the day.

Clearing sky overnight with a low temperature in the 40s north and 50s south.

A weak trough of low pressure brings a few afternoon clouds and a shower to northern New England Friday. Otherwise, there will be plenty of sunshine with highs temperatures in the 70s, to 80 degrees well inland in southern New England.

High pressure expands from the Great Lakes through southeastern Canada and New England this weekend. At this time, it looks like a perfect summer weekend.

As the sun comes up each morning, the temperature is starting off in the 40s and 50s. With plenty of sunshine each day, high temperatures will be near 80 degrees. It may be a little cooler at the coast, but still nice beach weather.

The next front arrives later Sunday with increasing clouds, but any rain should wait until Monday and Tuesday, and we get abundant rainfall again next week.
