Heavy Rain and Storms Continue Friday Night Following Tornado Warnings

We have had a damp, and at times, soggy and stormy Friday. Temperatures were stuck in the 40s and low 50s for most with a gusty east, southeast wind.

The low-pressure system that will bring us wave number two tonight, will move just northwest of New England, but since we are in the triple point area we can expect some instability leading to some more strong thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

Any storm that moves through could bring damaging winds, lightning, small hail and torrential rain, as well as a low chance for a brief spin up tornado. Though that tornado risk will continue to be rather isolated and low and across southern New England.

We already had a tornado warning in northern Connecticut to southern Massachusetts with some rotation on radar, though nothing was confirmed on the ground as of early this evening. Mostly a heavy rain and gusty wind event tonight through Saturday morning.

The heaviest rainfall and most widespread rain will be 8 p.m. to dawn from southwest to northeast across New England. From 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. is when Boston has the heaviest rain and thunderstorm chance.

Stay tuned to the First Alert weather team for updates if any storm watches or warnings are issued.

The showers continue to taper off Saturday morning, lingering across Maine until about noon. Upslope precipitation is possible across the higher terrain as our wind turns from the west and remains gusty Saturday afternoon.

A few sprinkles also possible Saturday afternoon, but otherwise a breezy day with sunshine breaking out and highs around 60.

Sunday early morning will begin dry, but a quick system brings a chance for scattered showers in the afternoon, mainly for southern New England. The rain moves out Sunday evening, but it also be a cool day with highs in the 50s.

Our highs stay in the 50s the next several days with the lack of sunshine and the jet stream right across the northeast. This keeps us in an active weather pattern through the 10-day forecast and going into May.
