Police in Somerville, Massachusetts, are looking for a driver who hit a pedestrian and fled.

A person was hospitalized Monday after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in Somerville, Massachusetts.

State police responded to the crash on Mystic Avenue near Shore Drive around 7 p.m.

The victim, a 33-year-old Somerville man, was found laying on the sidewalk and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries, where he remains hospitalized, police said.

Police said they have located the vehicle believed to have been involved in the crash. It is at a state police facility where it will be processed for evidence. The investigation is ongoing to identify the driver and the exact path of travel of the vehicle and the pedestrian prior to the crash to determine if criminal charges will be filed.

Lanes were closed as police investigated the crash. People who live in the area said the street can be dangerous.

"People speed up and down this street all the time and it's disturbing, you know because little kids live around here," one neighbor said. "It's just disturbing how people take off when they hit somebody."
