1 Person Killed, Second Person Badly Injured in 5-Vehicle Crash on I-495

A total of five vehicles were involved in the crash, including several trucks

One person was killed and a second person seriously injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 north in Raynham, Massachusetts, on Tuesday morning.

The accident was first reported shortly after 7:15 a.m. just prior to the Route 138 exit. A total of five vehicles, several of them trucks, were involved in the crash, officials said.

One driver died at the scene, state police said. A second person in a different vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, police said.

Raynham police said that the two injured people were each in pickup trucks. The crash also involved two tractor trailers and an SUV.

The driver who died had been trapped in their vehicle. Officials worked to free them for 45 minutes.

The person who was seriously injured is believed to have been the driver of the other pickup truck. They were found in the road and taken to Morton Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The other drivers declined to be taken to hospitals after being evaluated by paramedics.

I-495 north was temporarily closed in the area, along with ramps from Route 24 north and south. Traffic was detoured to Route 24 north to Route 106 east to Route 138 south and back to I-495.

State police said one lane reopened shortly before 9 a.m., and all lanes had reopened as of 12:45 p.m.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by state police.
