A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of western and central Massachusetts, southern and central New Hampshire, southern Maine and northern Connecticut.
A severe thunderstorm watch has also been issued for parts of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Damaging wind gusts, heavy rain and hail could develop. Damage to vehicles, trees and power lines is also possible.
The storms are moving through as our heat wave continues Wednesday, with highs in the 90s for the fourth day in a row.
July has certainly been hot across New England, and it is the hottest July on record in Boston, with a monthly average temperature of 78.5 degrees. It is also the warmest month ever recorded. This is quite impressive considering that records began in 1872.
That heat will come to an end Thursday, however, as the cold front now triggering scattered showers and strong storms is set to bring less humid and more comfortable air.
The Red Sox game could be delayed as we expect rain to diminish after 9 p.m. with showers lingering along the coast. Cooler and less humid air filters in Wednesday night over western and northern New England, while southern and eastern New England remain sticky.

The front will be slow to clear the region so by Thursday morning, a few raindrops are still possible over eastern New England. Drier air will continue to take over as the day goes on with highs in the 80s and lower humidity.
Canadian high-pressure system will dominate Friday, providing a great forecast for beach goers and outdoor adventurers. It will be mostly sunny with highs in the 80s.
