Innovation Lab to Close After Two Year Run

A Massachusetts tech incubator that struggled to find tenants has closed after two years.

The Eagle-Tribune reports that Maker Innovation Lab Lawrence recently announced it would close. The lab had signed on to pay $50,000 each year in rent for the 10,000 square-foot space at Everett Mills in Lawrence. It will give assets and equipment to the building in exchange for unpaid rent.

MILL had received more than $80,000 in grant funding from the state agency MassDevelopment. The lab bought equipment including a robotics lab, darkroom equipment and 3D printing tools with the funding. BiciCocina, the Greater Lawrence Technical School and the Lawrence YMCA all donated equipment and services to the innovation lab.

Lab founder Jennifer Hilton says MILL "didn't have enough interest and support within the community."
