John Harvard's Brewery and Ale House in Harvard Square Is Closing

It looks like another longtime Harvard Square spot is shutting its doors for good.

According to an article from Boston Magazine, John Harvard's Brewery & Ale House on Dunster Street is closing on May 30 after more than 25 years in business and a bit more than three years after announcing that it was ending its onsite beermaking. No specific reason has been given for the closure as of yet, but its ending of the beermaking operations in 2016 stemmed from what was described as maintenance expenses at the time. The post says that the closure does not affect the other  outlets of John Harvard's in Framingham or at two ski mountains west of the local area--Jiminy Peak in western Massachusetts and Holiday Valley in New York--nor does it affect Union Station Brewery in Providence, which is affiliated with John Harvard's.

John Harvard's first opened in 1992 in The Garage, a building in the heart of the square that is home to a number of businesses, including a few other dining spots.
