Lowell Man Accused to Shaking Infant Son Faces Judge

A Lowell man arrested on charges of assault and battery on a child faced a judge on Tuesday.

Pedro Santiago, 27, is accused of shaking his 3-month-old son and causing serious injury at his West Third Street home on Nov. 30.

Lowell Police responded to a 911 call at Santiago's home for a report of an infant having trouble breathing. The infant was transported to Lowell General Hospital before being flown to Boston Children's Hospital, where he remains hospitalized as of Wednesday.

Santiago was arrested by Lowell Police on Monday.

A judge set bail at $500 cash and ordered Santiago to comply with a service plan set forth by the Department of Children and Families; he must stay away from his children and will be placed on GPS monitoring. He's set to reappear in court on Jan. 10.
