No Bail for Suspect in Attempted Murder of Mom, Sister in Court

A Massachusetts, man who police say tried to murder his mother and sister during a home invasion last week was ordered held without bail at his arraignment on Wednesday.

John C. Ferreira, 54, of Melrose, was arrested in Westborough on Tuesday after being on the run since Friday, when he allegedly attacked the two women inside their Melrose home.

According to a police report, Ferreira allegedly hit his mother and sister with a rubber mallet and then tied them up with zip ties and duct tape, leaving them bloodied and badly bruised.

Ferreira was spotted Tuesday in a red Toyota he allegedly stole from one of the victims. He was taken into custody without incident after a short chase.

Police said he tied up the women and attacked them before fleeing the scene.

Both of the victims were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. They have since been released from the hospital.
