Man Accused of Spraying Trooper With Liquid, Spitting in His Face at Logan International Airport

A Rhode Island man faces assault charges after allegedly spraying an unknown liquid at a Massachusetts State Police trooper, punching him and spitting in his face at Logan International Airport in Boston.

Police charged 28-year-old Kevin Luczak with assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest. He flew into Boston Tuesday night and complained to an airport official about a lost bag, according to state police, who say he then went up to the trooper and sprayed the liquid in his face.

When the trooper tried to arrest Luczak, police say the suspect began punching him. He allegedly spat twice in the trooper's face. He ran away, but that trooper and others chased him and put him in handcuffs.

Boston EMS treated Luczak, who had a bloody nose after the confrontation. Police say the trooper had injuries to his face, hand and knees, but he refused to be taken to a hospital.

Luczak was arraigned Wednesday in East Boston District Court. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
