Man Arrested for Allegedly Punching MBTA Operator Repeatedly in Face

A Boston man has been arrested for allegedly punching a Silver Line operator in the face repeatedly for not letting him off between stops, police said Monday.

MBTA police said transit officers responded to the Tufts Medical Center stop Friday at around 10:20 p.m. after receiving a report of an officer being assaulted.

Witnesses told the officers that the man, later identified as 43-year-old Garcia Lewis, became upset that the bus did not stop after he hit the stop button.

According to police, the operator explained that he could not allow passengers to disembark between established stops. At that point, Lewis allegedly punched the operator "10 to 12 times."

Responding officers arrested Lewis, who was still seated on the bus, police said.

The operator of the bus was taken to a local hospital with facial injuries.
