Man Facing Animal Cruelty Charges for Pepper Spraying Dog in New Hampshire

A New Hampshire man is facing charges in connection with pepper spraying his neighbor's dog last month.

Exeter Police said they were called to an area of Kathleen Drive on May 8 after Lawrence Cluley, 38, allegedly emptied an entire 4-ounce can of pepper spray on a mixed breed Husky while the animal was running outside its home.

Witnesses said when the dog's owner asked Cluley why he had sprayed her dog, he replied that he would, “spray her too, (expletive).”

Police said after the incident, the dog's face turned orange and it needed veterinarian care for red, blistering lips. Its owner also reported that it was not eating normally.

Authorities said the animal needed antibiotics and painkillers.

Cluley turned himself into police on May 19 following an arrest warrant. He was charged with cruelty to animals and criminal threatening. He is scheduled to be arraigned on July 3.
