Neighbor Steps in to Help Save Man From Abington House Fire

A heroic neighbor stepped in and helped save a 57-year-old man Tuesday night from a burning house in Abington, Massachusetts

The 2-alarm fire broke 16 1019 Plymouth Street. Police and neighbor Kurt Knepsheild helped pull the 57-year-old man out of the home after a blaze broke out in the second story.

"I pulled into the threshold. He was a pretty big guy and so I only had the threshold and by the time the police showed up, he came across and grabbed his feet and I went across and grabbed his hands," Knepsheild said.

The injured man suffered some burns and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital by ambulance. His condition was not immediately known. The man's family told NBC10 Boston he is not doing very well.

Police said a medical helicopter was requested, but it could not fly due to the weather.

Crews from Hanson and Weymouth assisted Abington firefighters in the response.
