A man was arrested after allegedly trying to kidnap a woman on Porter Street in East Boston Wednesday morning.

The victim reportedly told police she was approached by a man around 4a.m. on Wednesday who asked for directions to the Maverick Square MBTA Station. According to police, as she began to provide directions, the man -- identified by police as 21-year-old Korey David, of East Boston -- grabbed her by the waist and made a threatening statement .

According to police, the woman was able to break away from David, but he allegedly continued to follow her and grabbed her a second time, preventing her from calling 911. Police say a passerby spotted the incident causing David to flee the scene.

A detailed description of the suspect along with surveillance images which showed a man wearing a GPS monitoring device led police to identify David, authorities said.

David was Friday evening in East Boston and is facing charges of kidnapping and assault and battery. It is unclear whether he has a lawyer.
