The Boston Globe's Jim McBride is reporting that the New England Patriots will place tight end Martellus Bennett on injured reserve, ending his season.
He played just two games for the Patriots after being claimed on waivers from the Green Bay Packers last month. He did not play in Sunday's win against the Miami Dolphins.
McBride said special teams standout Nate Ebner will also be placed on injured reserve after hurting his knee in Sunday's game.
The Packers cited a "failure to disclose a physical condition" for dropping Bennett earlier this year.
Bennett said in an Instagram post that the Packers examined his shoulder when he signed a three-year, $21 million free agent contract with them in March that included a $6.3 million signing bonus. But he contends his shoulder got progressively worse during the season and that he asked to have it checked after the 35-31 win on Oct. 8 against the Dallas Cowboys. The 30-year-old tight end said he wanted to opt for surgery, but the team physician was pushing him to play.
The outspoken tight end won a Super Bowl with the Patriots last year, his only season in New England.
Bennett signed with the Packers as an unrestricted free agent last offseason and started seven games.
