Massachusetts Man Pleads Guilty to 2010 Stabbing Death of Girlfriend

A Fitchburg, Massachusetts, man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2010 stabbing death of his girlfriend.

The Sentinel & Enterprise reports that William Brown was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 15 years. The 34-year-old Brown had been held since the murder of Sarin Chan and was credited for five years already served.

Chan was found dead in the living room of the apartment she shared with Brown and their two children on July 18, 2010.

Police found Brown in the apartment's bathtub suffering from self-inflicted wounds.

Prosecutors say Brown has a history of mental illness, including homicidal ideation, suicide attempts and hearing voices.

A court-appointed psychiatrist determined that Brown was still able to appreciate the "wrongfulness" of his actions.
