Massachusetts State Trooper Involved in Altercation to Face Charges

Trooper Matthew Hickey is facing charges in the December 1 incident at Dorset Hall in Dorchester

A Massachusetts State Police trooper is facing charges after authorities say he was involved in an assault and battery altercation earlier this month.

Trooper Matthew Hickey is facing charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury as well as assault and battery stemming from the Dec. 1 incident at Dorset Hall in Dorchester, according to authorities.

State Police Spokesperson Dave Procopio said Hickey was suspended with pay earlier this week and a hearing has been scheduled to address his duty status.

"We have no tolerance for the type of conduct that is alleged in the complaint. We have opened an internal affairs investigation and will closely monitor the judicial proceedings," a statement from Procopio read in part.

No other information on the incident was available.

The DA's office says Trooper Hickey has not been officially charged yet.

Representatives from Dorset Hall declined to speak with NBC10 Boston Thursday night.

Editor's note: NBC10 Boston first identified the trooper incorrectly.
