MBTA: Buses Replace Blue Line After Massive Fire

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is using shuttle buses to replace the T's blue line after a massive fire broke out in East Boston Friday afternoon.

According to the MBTA, shuttle buses are replacing blue line service between Airport and Wonderland stations until further notice. Replacement buses are serving all inbound blue line stations. They are also serving all outbound stations, with the exception of Suffolk Downs due to ongoing fire department activity, the MBTA said.

The change in service comes after a nine-alarm fire broke out at the New England Casket Company in East Boston Friday afternoon.

According to the MBTA, it is now in the process of deploying a network of equipment to pump out water in the track bed and vehicle yard in the area of Orient Heights.

Once this work is done, the MBTA will assess the extent of any damage to signal, power and track infrastructure and make a determination as to any repair needs. It will also at that time have a better understanding of how long it will take to restore full service.
