Pilot Program Offers MBTA Service From Foxborough to Boston

MBTA officials are trying to see how much interest the pilot program will garner

An MBTA experiment aims to make a commute to Boston’s South Station from Foxborough easier as it rolls out a yearlong pilot program service on Monday.

The first Commuter Rail train in the pilot departed from Foxborough to the Hub at 5:47 a.m. in what is the first of 20 daily weekday trips from the two Bay State destinations. Transportation officials want to see how much interest the service will receive as they consider implementing it for the long run.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority says offering the service during peak traffic hours will help alleviate congestion on the road and at stations in neighboring communities.

Each round trip will cost $17.50.

Foxboro Station will provide at least 500 parking spaces for commuters, along with 24-hour onsite security. Parking will cost $4 a day.
