Men Sought in Connection to Malden Fatal Shooting Located in California

Yahia Mastouri, 18, and Josue Espada, 20, both of Malden, were located and arrested May 11 in Los Angeles

Two Massachusetts men wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Malden back in March have been taken into custody in California, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office.

Authorities said Yahia Mastouri, 18, and Josue Espada, 20, both of Malden, were located and arrested May 11 in Los Angeles. A rendition hearing was scheduled for Tuesday.

The district attorney said the men were positively identified during an unrelated criminal investigation by United States Marshals. Mastouri and Espada were placed under arrest at a motel on warrants out of Massachusetts.

Authorities said Mastouri has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault with intent to rob and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the March 2 fatal shooting of 23-year-old Jeury Batista.

Espada has been charged with accessory after the fact.

The men are expected to face additional charges when they get back to Massachusetts. It's unclear if they have attorneys.

The investigation is ongoing.
