Social media messages between a Massachusetts woman and her boyfriend have been released as her lawyers defend her against accusations she encouraged him to commit suicide.
The Facebook messages from July to October 2012 were discussed Monday, a week after Michelle Carter of Plainville went on trial before a judge on a manslaughter charge in connection to 18-year-old Conrad Roy III's 2014 suicide. She was 17 at the time of his death.
In the messages, Carter tells Roy, "I don't want you to" commit suicide after he tells her his plans.
The messages, which were released by 20-year-old Carter's defense team, show Roy detailing his plans to commit suicide in 2012 to Carter because, he wrote, "I'm weak and sensitive and not sure why you even liked me in the first place."
Telling her in the Facebook messages that "voices in my head" told him to try to commit suicide, Roy was hospitalized for a week after this attempt, his mother testified at the beginning of Carter's trial.
"Conrad?" Carter wrote after Roy didn't respond immediately. "you nhave [sic] so much to live for please dont ... please answer me Conrad I want to help you."

As she says she's leaving for a practice, she writes, "I just want you to know that you were one of the most amazing guys ive [sic] ever met and you made me really happy and that time in Florida and the day you came over, you made me so hapy [sic] and im [sic] so proud of what you accoplished [sic] with rowing and i admire how strong you were to go back to school and I will really miss you babe ... are you sure you want to do this?"
Roy did not kill himself that evening. However, in July 2014, he was found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in his pickup truck.
Facebook messages between Carter and Roy in late November 2012 show that both of them believed they had seen the devil, and frequently spoke of being damned.
"I just don't know how to tell her I'm the Devils [sic] child," Carter wrote to Roy about a friend. "No one understands."
Roy wrote back, "your [sic] not! ... He wants us. He wants both of us"
"Like no one understands. Youre [sic] the only one who understands," Carter later wrote.
Roy would also tell Carter about how he would hallucinate and see Satan who "was red and had a black cape."
After a particularly bad day, Roy wrote to Carter that he was "almost done ... with it ... i [sic] got to ... go."
Carter responded, "go where?"
"HELL," Roy wrote.
Panicked, Carter wrote back, "what? no you dont your going to Heaven. babe stop it your scaring me'"
Roy wrote to her that it was "the bad one" who was telling him to "go with him," alluding to Satan.
Carter also frequently brought up her troubled friendship with another girl to Roy, writing to him, "Like I dont [sic] wanna mess everything up but I wanna know if she really wants to be my friend again so I dont [sic] get my hopes up for nothing."
