Aerial footage showed flames pouring from the home, with damaged vehicles in the yard.

Investigators believe the fire started outside the barn, spreading to it and the house. Brush in the yard was burning when firefighters arrived.

Fire officials noted that the closest fire hydrants are about a mile away, so a portable water tank was used, with a rotating line of tankers filling it.

"We had two structure fires and a grass fire simultaneously," Middleborough Fire Chief Owen Thompson said in a statement. "Our first step was to verify that no one else was in the building. Our firefighters did a fantastic job, especially with the amount of fire they faced when they first arrived, with limited water. They made sure to battle the fire consuming the home and took care of the burn victim at the same time. This was the second structure fire that our crews battled today, and they did an incredible job."

The Middleborough Fire Department said around 6 p.m. that the fire had been knocked down.
