An investigation is underway after state and university police responded to an MIT fraternity building that had been shot at overnight.
The building on Memorial Drive is the Phi Beta Epsilon building, and crime scene tape had blocked off a lane of Memorial Drive at Endicott Street for much of Tuesday morning.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Students who were back on campus for the start of the new year woke up to the crime scene.
"That’s wild. I’m really surprised to hear that," said MIT senior Christine Langston.
Cambridge police are not part of the investigation, but told NBC10 Boston there were reports of shots fired Monday night, and that the bullet holes and casings were discovered Tuesday morning.
"Stuff like this does happen I guess across the nation, so I guess it could happen anywhere," said MIT sophomore Kyle Higgins.

NBC10 Boston observed at least 11 evidence markers in the area.
While students readjust to campus life, they are also eagerly awaiting details from investigators to find out exactly what happened.
"It doesn’t seem like the place people would really target... especially MIT in general. It's usually very safe, MIT Police always around," said MIT junior Anthony Cheng.
While the investigation is ongoing, MIT officials have not yet commented.
