Massachusetts State Police say a trooper and five other people were injured in a six-vehicle crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Framingham.
Authorities say a pickup truck burst into flames during the pileup in the eastbound lanes near Exit 12 shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Officials say it appears the crash began when a box truck slammed into the rear of the pickup truck. The cause is under investigation.
Six people were brought to hospitals.
State police say the pickup driver, a 54-year-old man from Hudson, was the most seriously injured. He was flown to a hospital by helicopter.
Authorities say two people in a sport-utility vehicle suffered incapacitating injuries, and the box truck driver and another driver had non-incapacitating injuries. Officials said the trooper suffered potential incapacitating injuries.
