A driver was stabbed multiple times and their minivan crashed in to a utility pole in Billerica, Massachusetts, Saturday morning, police said, adding that the crash appeared to be what caused the accident.

The crash on Boston Road near Winthrop Street was reported to police about 8:05 a.m., Billerica police said. The vehicle had side-swiped the pole, knocking down power wires.

First responders found the driver with multiple stab wounds, authorities said. The other three people in the vehicle, which wasn't identified, had injuries consistent with a car crash and were expected to survive.

Police said there may have been a fight inside the vehicle before the crash. Due to the investigation, Boston Road, Alpine Street and Lowell Street were closed.

No one was charged Saturday, according to police. They noted the investigation was ongoing.

A good Samaritan, who didn't want to be identified, said the crash left one passenger laying in the road having a seizure while another picked up a knife and tossed it into the grass.

“One kid was laying the street, and he was in severe convulsions and then he just went completely limp,” he said. “We thought we lost him for a second but he ended up waking up a couple minutes later.”

The eyewitness said the stabbed and bleeding driver was found several houses away, apparently after escaping the moving vehicle moments before the impact, which sent one of the doors flying across the street.

“He bailed out, just did like a tuck and roll, probably at like 40, 50 miles an hour a few houses up because he ended up at those people’s house down the street,” the good Samaritan explained. “A girl and another guy came around the other side. The girl tossed the knife into the grass right there.”
