Injuries Reported in Multi-Car Crash on I-93 in Wilmington, Massachusetts

At least one person was seriously injured in a multi-car crash in Wilmington, Massachusetts, early Sunday morning.

The crash happened off Exit 38 on Interstate 93 northbound at 1:42 a.m. Multiple vehicles and a tractor trailer were involved in the accident.

Troopers discovered a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by a 21-year-old Woburn man, struck a 2011 Chevy Malibu, driven by a 46-year-old man from Westfield. After hitting the Chevy, the Hyundai left onto the right side of the roadway, re-entered the roadway and rolled over. The Chevy struck a guardrail on the left side of the road.

The tractor trailer traveling northbound and operated a 57-year-old man from Manchester, New Hampshire, hit the Hyundai.

State Police say the drivers of the Chevy and tractor trailer were not injured. The man inside the Hyundai sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts.

A fourth vehicle struck debrid and from the crash which caused the car to become diabled. The 25-year-old female driver was not hurt.

All traffic was diverted until 6:46 a.m. MassDOT officials say that all lanes have since reopened following the crash.

The crash is still under investigation by State Police. There is no further information at this time.
